Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, will present the 2021 Budget Statement of Government in Parliament on 12 March. Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah revealed this on Monday to the media after a cabinet retreat at the Peduase Lodge.
Traditionally, it is the Minister for Finance who presents the budget statement in Parliament on behalf of government. However, Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister for Finance-designate, is yet to be vetted by Parliament’s Appointment Committee due to ill-heath.
Ofori-Atta left Ghana for the United States on Sunday 14 February 2021 to treat post-COVID-19 medial complications. Ofori-Atta is said to have recovered from the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 last December and has since had some medical complications.
“After recovering from COVID-19 last December, Mr. Ofori-Atta has had medical complications which doctors advise, require further interventions not currently available in Ghana,” a statement from the Ministry said.
He was expected to be vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday 8 March 2021. A new vetting date is yet to be communicated.
