Of Acid Throwing And Tension In NPP

IT will not be an understatement to say that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is on fire. Clearly, it is obvious that things are not going well in the party! And this is getting to a point if not checked has the potential to derail the NPP as a political party! What on earth will force party members (belonging to the same tradition) to throw acid on another member?

THE above question is something that we at Todayhave been pondering over, following the death of the Upper East regional NPP Chairman, Adam Mahama. The sad news was reported yesterday dawn that two assailants bathed Adam Mahama who at the time was sitting in his car with his wife with acid. This is absolute wickedness, and must be condemned by every Ghanaian. Some minutes later it was reported and confirmed that Adam Mahama who at the time was battling with his life has passed on.

WE must state that the way politics is being done in this country leaves much to be desired. Politics in this country has become a matter of life or death for the so-called big political parties—the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). But is that how politics is supposed to be done? The answer is a big no!

THOUGH we would wait for the police to come out with its c findings after the investigation , it is important to state that for some time now happenings in the NPP have not been in good taste. In the past months news about the NPP has always centered on a perceived division in the party which perception seems to be feeding on the minds of supporters of the party.

POLITICS is supposed to be trading of ideas and finding ways to improve the wellbeing of the citizenry. In Africa where Ghana is no exception politics has become an avenue where many who enter into think of one thing—to amass wealth and nothing else! That explains why some will go every length to do in their opponents just to achieve their aim. But should that become the order of the day? We leave this question to our politicians to answer.

IT is welcoming to hear that the police are beefing up security around NPP offices to prevent any reprisal. We need political parties including the NPP to build a vibrant multi-party democracy. On this score we urge NPP members to stay calm and allow the police to do their work. We also want to urge the police to speed up with their investigations so that the perpetrators of this heinous crime would be made to face the full rigours of the law.

WE, therefore, wish to extend our condolence to the late chairman’s wife and family and pray for our Almighty God to give them the fortitude to bear this loss. And to the late Adam Mahama we say May his soul rest in perfect peace!
