The New Free Press is deeply saddened by the death of President John Fiifi Atta Mills, President of Ghana. Although we have criticised some aspects of his government and his style of leadership we extend our condolences to his wife Mrs Naadu Mills, his family and to all Ghanaians.

President Mills passing to the next world cannot be allowed to go quietly without asking frank questions. Why has the NDC as a party not being honest about President Mill’s health from the day he became President?

The facts are cold but true, even a day nursery child in Ghana knew that President Mills was not well and had serious health problems. His own party members, the likes of Spio Garbrah, Herbert Mensah, their own National Chairman Dr Kwabena Adjei and most recently former NDC General Secretary Josiah Aryeh said the President was sick.

When he came back from the United States, it was clear from his features and his broken crackling voice that he was in deep distress, yet some insincere party members, Solomon Nkansah, Deputy Propaganda Secretary, Alex Segbefia, Okudzeto Ablakwa, Fiifi Kwetey, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and most notoriously Nii Lantei Vanderpuiye backed by Chief of Staff John Martey Newman claimed the President was ready to campaign and win an election.

His physical features however told a different story. Our late President should not have stood for re-election, but greedy advisers and parasites like his brother Dr Cadman Mills, Kwabena Duffuor, Kwamena Ahwoi,Ato Ahwoi, Kwesi Botchwey ,Sipah Yankey, Ben Ephson, Alhaji Bature and Kwesi Pratt and others that hang around the Presidency forced this frail man to stand so they could to benefit and protect their selfish interests! Our newly sworn in President Mr John Mahama cannot escape blame for this sad state of affairs. He was part of this charade of pretending all was well when it was not.

President Mills has left Ghana with serious problems, a deeply polarised country and a government living day by day through propaganda, widespread poverty and unemployment among the youth, labour unrest, a depreciating cedi, a crisis revolving around fraudulent judgement debts, a struggling economy and a government now at a crossroads with John Mahama as President. Will his party, the NDC have to go to congress as their party constitution demands? Will John Mahama the newly sworn president be their presidential candidate? Are we going or are we coming as a nation?

If there is any time we need God to come down and save us, it is now.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
