Ghanas leading data service provider, MTN, has added a boost to its network with the successful implementation of 42Mbps (megabits per second) connectivity in parts of Ashanti region. 42Mbps connectivity which is the first in Ghana is aimed at enhancing data speeds and customer experience on the network.

The 42 mbps is an enhanced form of data connectivity on the 3G platform which gives the customer reliable network, extended capacity where more people can browse at the same time without congestion. It also promotes a better user experience. The project was successfully tested for subscribers living in and around the KNUST campus in Kumasi.

With this, subscribers with devices that support 42Mbps features such as Samsung S4, iPhone 5, MTN Mifi devices, Nokia Lumia and Huawei range of smart devices will enjoy greater speeds on the internet.

Announcing the successful implementation of the project, Mr. Hendrick Vorster, MTN Chief Technical Officer said, Implementation of 42 Mbps connectivity by MTN is a first in Ghana and demonstrates another example of innovation by MTN. We continue to invest heavily in deploying the latest infrastructure and technologies that are aimed at improving customer experience, not only in voice service delivery but also high speed data connectivity.

He added, the successful implementation of this project and many more yet to be rolled out attest to MTNs commitment to achieving its vision of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world to our customers.

The upgrade of 21Mbps to 42Mbps is currently ongoing and is being activated in selected locations where there is high smart device penetration. MTN has identified some hotspots in Accra where the roll out will soon take place.

MTN is currently undertaking internet connectivity campaign dubbed ifest to get more of its customers hooked onto the internet. Data clinics are being organized at designated points across the country to allow customers to experience high speed connectivity and free data on the MTN network.
