Former Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano claims that Gareth Bale seems 'downcast' in Spain as he struggles to cope with his world record transfer fee and the emergence of youngster Jese Rodriguez.
The former Tottenham winger arrived at the Bernabeu for a fee of Ł86million last summer but his recent performances have been troubled by inconsistency - while 20-year-old youth product Jese has been earning rave reviews.
Valdano, who has also both played for and managed the club, claims the the Welshman is playing with 'anxiety' and seems 'somewhere else'.
