Madagascar was in the spotlight on July 30, 2024 in Guinea-Bissau. The state visit of the President of the Republic, Andry RAJOELINA, solemnly began with a military parade, with a troop review and cannon fire. The Malagasy Head of State was welcomed by the Commander of the Military Bloc of Guinea-Bissau, then by President Umaro Sissoco Embaló. The two presidents then held a tête-à-tête in the office of President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, before jointly leading a bilateral meeting between the two delegations.
President Umaro Sissoco Embaló stressed that Guinea-Bissau was honored to receive the President of the Malagasy Republic, a brother and friend country with which it shares a set of values and the same aspirations for peace, stability and development. . “This visit marks a new page in the history between our two countries and symbolizes our mutual commitment to strengthening our ties of friendship and cooperation. I wish lasting peace and continued prosperity for the people of Guinea-Bissau. Our Joint efforts will lead to a bright and fruitful future for our two nations,” declared President Andry RAJOELINA.
Two partnership agreements were signed at the end of this bilateral meeting: a general framework cooperation agreement between the two countries, covering 28 sectors of cooperation, and a joint press release committing the two nations to respect the terms of this agreement. The two parties thus undertake to strengthen relations in all areas of commoninterest, in a spirit of fraternal solidarity.
The signing of these agreements took place in the presence of the two Heads of State and all officials of the two countries. The Minister of the Malagasy Armed Forces, SAHIVELO Lala Monja Delphin, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities, Mr. Carlos Pinto Pereira, carried out this signing. The military field is also among
the sectors concerned, where Guinea-Bissau officers will be able to join the AntsirabeMilitary Academy (ACMIL).
In recognition of the importance of this state visit, President Andry RAJOELINA was decorated with the Amilcar Cabral medal, the highest distinction of Guinea-Bissau, by President Umaro Sissoco Embaló. The ceremony took on all the solemnity of this event. “I am giving you this distinction as recognition for everything you have accomplished for the African continent but also for Guinea-Bissau,” declared President Umaro Sissoco Embalo. It is up to him to recall the distribution of Tambavy CVO across Africa during the COVID-19 period. President Embaló also welcomed Madagascar's commitment to south-south cooperation, considering President Andry RAJOELINA as “a true Ambassador and symbol of Pan-Africanism”.
In addition, during the ceremony at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Malagasy Republic also received the keys to the city of Bissau from the hands of the Mayor, José Medina Lobato.
The two Heads of State expressed their mutual desire to move forward hand in hand by marking a new page in diplomatic relations between the two countries. After these ceremonies, President Andry RAJOELINA visited the cashew processing factory of the SantyCommercial Group which is located in the Brá Industrial Zone, a sector in which Guinea-Bissau is one of the world's leading exporters.
