Naa Asie Ocansey, Chief Executive Officer of Channel of Blessing, a non-governmental organization, accused of fraudulently recruiting and trafficking a woman to the United States, appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Naa Ocansey, an engineer, has denied the charge of attempting to commit crime to wit human trafficking.

She is also being held for taking GH₵ 5,000.00 from one Eugenia Mensah Plange to process a visa for her.

The court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of GH₵ 30,000.00 with two sureties to reappear on May 28.

This was after her counsel Mr Yonni Kulendi had prayed the court to admit his client to bail.

Acording to Mr Kulendi, Naa Ocansey was an International Labour and Migration Consultant and as such would not abscond.

Mr Kulendi noted that the facts as presented by the Police was “a complete fabrication” and further denied that “no letter had been written by the US Embassy concerning his client.”

According to him, Naa Ocansey had been cooperating with the Police and had provided all documents in respect of the transaction between her and the complainant to the Police.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mary Agbozo told the court that on November 2, last year, the Anti Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service received a letter from the American Embassy prompting them of a letter written by Naa Ocansey on July 12, 2012.

According to DSP Agbozo, the accused person had fraudulently prepared and submitted a visa application form for Ms Plange.

Based on that, prosecution said Naa Ocansey was invited for interrogation. During the interrogation, Naa Ocansey admitted that she knew Ms Plange and that she was part of a group recruited by her organisation scheduled to travel to USA.

When asked to produce documents on Ms Plange, Naa Ocansey managed to falsi0fy documents to show that Ms Plange was a Social Worker and a staff of Nekotech and succeeded in collecting GH₵ 5,000.00 to process her USA visa.

Prosecution said investigations further revealed that there were series of announcement on an Accra based radio station soliciting for prospective clients who are interested in travelling to USA to work by the accused.
