A 28-year old farmer was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Ho Circuit Court on Wednesday for stealing a pair of Wellington boot and possessing Indian hemp weighing 16.70 grams without authority.

Vovolar Kosi Gomadzi Klu pleaded not guilty and was found guilty on both counts by the Court presided over by Justice Richard Kogyapwah, a Ho High Court Judge sitting as a Circuit Court Judge.

Klu was sentenced to 20 months for stealing the Wellington boots and 10 years for possessing Indian hemp without authority, all to run concurrently.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel Aboagye told the Court that on August 22, 2012, one Kpoga Yaw, a resident of Kpatakope near Kpetoe complained of the loss of his master’s pair of Wellington boots and goat and asked neighbours to be on the lookout for anyone who might be using the boot.

He said on September 4, 2012, Kpoga Yaw saw Klu wearing the pair of boots to the farm.

ASP Aboagye said Kpoga Yaw accosted and arrested Klu and handed him to the Kpetoe Police.

He said the Police found the quantity of Indian hemp in Klu’s sack which he was taking to the farm.

Justice Kogyapwah ordered that the Wellington boots be returned to the owner and the quantity of Indian hemp be burnt in the presence of the Court Registrar.
