Wliiam Kamassah, a 26-year-old mason, who had been charged with defilement, was yesterday sentenced to seven years after he had admitted that a 13-year-old girl was carrying his baby.
The accused person told an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Sedina Agbemava that he defiled the minor and claimed that he wanted to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

According to the prosecutor, in December 2013, Kamassah lured the victim into his room and defiled her, asserting that the victim after sometime reported sick and later realized she was pregnant.
ASP Veronica Ofei posited that the victim informed the complainant who then reported the matter to the police at Tesano and the victim was issued with a form to go to the hospital for examination.
The police officer stated that the case was later transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at Tesano when the victim returned from the hospital with the medical report.
