MICHAEL OWUSU Prempeh, a 32-year-old man who attacked a taxi driver, has been jailed for 20 years by a circuit court at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
He was convicted on three counts of attempted robbery, use of offensive weapon and causing unlawful harm. He pleaded guilty to all the charges and was accordingly sentenced to 20 years on attempted robbery, five years on the use of offensive weapon, and one year for causing harm.
The incident happened on December 23, 2012 when the convict hired the services of the cabbie from Obuasi Zongo to Ahansoyewodea, both suburbs in the Gold City.
DSP Kwabena Otuo-Acheampong, Obuasi Divisional Crime Officer, told DAILY GUIDE that Michael Owusu Prempeh stabbed the cabbie on the neck with a pair of scissors as he attempted to snatch the car at a secluded place in Ahansoyewodea community.
The police chief intimated that the taxi driver raised an alarm while he was struggling with the convict, which attracted scores of people to the scene.
Michael Owusu Prempeh was subsequently overpowered and handed over to the police.
