Members of Kojokperi Community in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District, on Thursday arrested two suspected armed robbers along the Kojokperi-Wallembelle stretch of the Wa-Wallembelle road.

The suspected robbers, Walili Jalo 29 and Bari Sule 25, suspected to be of Fulani extraction, were arrested during an ambush by the community members after they had received information from Wallembelle that the suspects had robbed somebody of his motorbike at Wallembelle in the Sissala East District.

On receiving the information, the community members then mobilized and laid ambush and intercepted the suspects on the road who fired several warning shots to frighten them but they were overpowered.

A Staff Officer of the Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Mr. Edmond Nyamekye, told the Ghana News Agency that the Police in Wa received information from the Wa East District Police Commander at Funsi that members of the Kojokperi community had arrested the two suspects and were in the process of lynching them.

He said policemen were dispatched from Funsi on board the Kundungu-Funsi-Wa Metro Mass Transport Bus, who chanced the suspects on the road with their captives, rescued and brought them to the Wa Police.

At the Wa Regional Police Station, the suspects were rearrested and found on them a short gun and cutlass with two cartridges.

According to ASP Nyamekye, who is also the Acting Upper Regional Police Public Relations Officer, information received from the assembly member of the area, Mr. Iddrisu Adams Anakar indicated that the suspects were among four others who had been robbing and terrorising innocent travelers on that portion of the road.

He said the community members had been monitoring the activities of the suspected robbers and this morning, they had information that the suspects had robbed somebody in the Wallembelle community of his motorbike and were heading towards Kojokperi.

The community members then mobilized, laid ambush and arrested the suspects at about 330 hours in the morning.

ASP Mr. Nyamekye said the suspects would be processed for court on Friday, July 25.
