Beauty Fabine, a 37-year old unemployed Nigerian from Orlu in the Imo State, on Thursday appeared before Takoradi Circuit Court “B” charged for human trafficking and escaping from lawful custody.

She pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of 10,000 Ghana Cedis with two sureties to re-appear on September 8 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Felix Danku told the court presided by Mr. Justice Charles Nimako that the complainant, Chioma Johnson, 21, was trafficked by the accused from Port Harcourt in the River State, Nigeria to Ghana.

He said on July 25 this year, the accused who lives in Takoradi went to Nigeria apparently to traffick ladies between 18 and 21 years purposely for prostitution in Ghana.

Chief Inspector Danku said intelligence had it that the accused returned to Ghana with Chioma and paid all her traveling expenses from Lagos to Takoradi.

He said the accused camped Chioma to make her start the prostitution and to pay her an amount of 4,100 Ghana Cedis. But before the amount was paid, a quarrel ensued between them and the victim packed out of the house.

Chief Inspector Danku said on August 21 this year, the accused spotted Chioma in a taxi in town and flagged the taxi to stop.

He said the accused attacked Chioma and told her she would stab her wherever she met her, but Chioma rushed to Police Station for assistance and the accused was arrested.

Chief Inspector Danku said the accused was arrested and during interrogation, admitted having trafficked the victim to Ghana with the help of a “School mother” called Happiness.

He said the accused managed to escape from Police custody but she was pursued and re-arrested and was charged after further investigations.
