A 25-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a 10-year-old girl sexually after he had lured the victim into his room at Hia – a farming community near Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region – has been jailed for 10 years.
Kwaku Gyebi, a galamsey operator, was convicted by a Bekwai Circuit Court when he pleaded guilty to the offence of defiling the pupil.
The prosecutor, Detective Sergeant Stephen Ofori, informed the court, presided over by Fredrick Enold Kwasi Nawura, that the act took place on September 14, 2014, inside the house of the complainant, who is the grandmother of the victim.
According to him, the convict, who is a tenant in the complainant’s house, on that faithful day, sent the victim on an errand.
Prosecution narrated that Kwaku Gyebi lured the poor girl into his room and sexually assaulted her subsequently upon her return, and warned the 10-year-old not to disclose the act to anybody.
On September 17, 2014, Sgt. Ofori said blood began to drip through the vagina of the victim. She later revealed her ordeal in the hands of the convict to her grandmother, who in turn passed on the information to the police.
Detective Sergeant Stephen Oforiintimated that members of the unit committee arrested Kwaku Gyebi and handed him over to the police for investigation.
He admitted the offence in his caution statement, Sgt. Ofori added, and continued further that the convict was arraigned after police
