A 22-year-old motorcycle thief was involved in a ghastly accident during his escape attempt with a stolen motorcycle at Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The suspect, Osei Kwame from Yanfo, stole the motorbike during a funeral ceremony in the area.
Manager of Atebubu-based Charity FM, Opanyinba Owusu Aduoniri, who was at the scene, said some people gave the suspect a hot chase after an alarm was raised.
During his escape bid, he said the motorcycle thief crashed into a speed rump, injuring himself in the process.
Opanyinba Owusu noted that the motorbike belonged to a 45-year-old man called Yaw Paul, who was being buried when the incident happened.
“One of the boys placed ₵1 note on the corpse and urged it to look for a thief. Minutes later we heard a young man has been involved in an accident while escaping with the motorbike,” he added.
Opanyinba Owusu said the people believe it is the ghost of Yaw Paul which caused the accident for the thief to be apprehended.
The suspect, Osei Kwame, is currently on admission at the Duayaw Nkwanta Hospital under tight security pending prosecution.
