Five men described by the police as dangerous criminals have been arrested and are being held at the Kumasi Central Police Station.

Their names were given as Samuel Duah, alias “Sammy Tuga”, Christopher Columbus, alias “Saa na etie”, Yaw Adutwum, Akwasi Appiah and Francis Yeboah.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, said they belonged to a notorious gang, linked to series of murders and robbery attacks.

They were seized by the Nyinahin police aided by the Unit Committee.

They had raided a small-scale mine at Afepaye in the Atwima-Mponua District and made off with gold concentrate valued at about GHȼ150,000, on October 10, at 1730 hours.

DCOP Kofi Boakye said the gang was also believed to have fired gunshots into a moving commercial bus at Kwanfinfi, killing a woman traveling on the vehicle, during a recent highway robbery operation
They again shot and hurt some farmers while fleeing from the police into the bush.

The Regional Commander said the suspects had already confessed to their involvement in a number of robberies.

The police had mounted a search to arrest two other accomplices – Chief, alias “Chibay” and Joe, he added.

DCOP Kofi Boakye encouraged people robbed by the suspects to report to the regional police headquarters to assist investigations.
