The Ashanti Regional Police Drug Law Enforcement Unit has destroyed large quantity of marijuana seized from drug peddlers on the orders of the court.
The dried leaves, packed in more than 400 sacks, were burned at the Dompoase landfill site in Kumasi.
Officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Attorney General’s Department, the Judicial Service and the Narcotic Control Board were on hand to witness the destruction.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jeremiah Alale, Commander of the Unit, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that owners of the stuff had been convicted and serving prison terms.
He called for increased public support to arrest and get those dealing in hard drugs, punished by the court.
