A final year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has allegedly killed a taxi driver, his close friend, over GHC1,200.

The student, Emmanuel Awuah, who is reading Geological Engineering at the University, allegedly killed Thomas Kwame Danso, 24, in order to sell the car to get back his GHC1,200, owed him by the deceased.

Awuah, 23, has provisionally, been charged with murder, and would be put before the Mampongteng court tomorrow.

His accomplice, yet to be identified, is on the run, and being sought for by the police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Emmanuel AnnorArhin, TafoPankrono Divisional Police Commander, confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times here, saying it happened on July 12, 2020 between AtwimaGyankobaa and Hwediem at a teak plantation, near Nyinahini, in the AtwimaMponua district of Ashanti.

According to the Police, the owner of the taxi, Daniel Owusu, reported to the police station at Pankrono of his missing driver.

The Police, upon further investigations, apprehended Awuah who was in possession of the taxi, GE 1436-17, in the teak plantation.

Quoting Awuah, the Police claimed he told his accomplice of how the deceased had refused to give him his GHC1,200.

He said the two succeeded in luring the driver to the scene of crime where they strangled him to death with the hope of selling the car.

ACP Arhin indicated that when the police got to the scene, the head of the deceased was almost decomposed, adding the body had been conveyed to the mortuary of the Komfo-Anokye Teaching Hospital.
