The police in Kumasi have arrested three suspects in Friday afternoon's robbery and killing at Alabar in Kumasi.
At about 12:10hrs on Friday, October 30, 2020, a gang of about seven, armed with guns and machetes riding on three motor bikes stormed and robbed some traders on the main Alabar street.
An unspecified amount of money was taken away amidst firing.
Four of the victims sustained injuries.
One person was pronounced dead on arrival at the Manhyia Government Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old onion seller, Nuru Fuseini.
The police pursued the suspects and arresting three of them.
The police has given the names of the three suspects as Hamza Nuhu, aged 22.
He was shot in the right thigh during the pursuit and currently on admission at the hospital under police guard.
The others are Salifu Iddrisu, 18 and Ali Razak also 18.
They are on detention to assist in police investigation, while a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of the remaining suspects, according to a police statement.
The police is urging all persons with information leading to the arrest of the other suspects, to provide it.
Graphic Online's reporter in Kumasi, Kwadwo Baffoe Donkor reported that the the busy commercial Alabar area close to the popular ‘Dr Mensah’ area near Kejetia was on Friday afternoon turned into a pandemonium as traders run helter skelter during the incident.
Donkor reported that the incident sent the busy Alabar area into a frenzy when traders and residents had to run for their lives.
The robbers were alleged to have first attacked a mobile money merchant and bolted with the booty.
According to an eyewitness, the suspects who were on board three motor bikes went to the mobile money vendor and took the said amount from him and went to other shops and also robbed them of various sums of money.
According to the eye witness, the deceased who was unable to provide them with money when asked to, was shot.
