A Student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been elected the new President of the University Students Association of Ghana (USAG).

Christian Anderson Ntiful, a student Doctor of Optometry of the KNUST, was declared the winner after beating four other contestants during the 21st Annual Delegates’ Congress of the Association at the North Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

He polled 426 votes out of the 710 total valid votes cast to win the position.

Richard Opoku obtained 179 votes; Mr. Edmund Brefo polled 100 while Joseph Appiah Dankwah had five votes with one rejected ballot.

Anderson Ntsiful is also the 12th speaker of the KNUST Students Representative Council (SRC), Parliamentary Council, former General Secretary of Unity Hall, and NUGS Public Relations Officer of KNUST.

The election conducted by the Association’s Electoral Commission was part of the activities of the Congress, held on the theme: “Eradicating Corruption: The University Student’s Role”.

The delegates were drawn from 36 Universities (public and private) with some 59 aspirants vying for various positions to steer the association for the 2022/2023 academic year.

Other executives elected include Ofori Yaw Bismark from the University of Cape Coast, General Secretary, Dayan Akpene Ama Green, (UG), Coordinating Secretary, Angela Aku-Sika (UG), Press and Information Secretary.

The rest are Angela Asantewaa Amoako (UG), International and Diaspora Relation Secretary, Ellen Tarchie Bonsuo (UEW), Woman’s Commission Secretary, Osei Fosu Solomon (KNUST), Financial Secretary and Desmond Adu, who went unopposed as the Treasurer.

Christian Phillips Amarh, the outgoing President of the Association, had earlier urged the delegates and supporters of the various aspirants to comport themselves and to contribute their quota to prosperous and peaceful elections.
