The president of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei has said the parties it signed the Memorandum of Understand (MOU) with knew the Association had to discuss the full details with the GMA�s council while the committee worked out the difference.
The GMA signed the MOU with Trades Union Congress , Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Finance Ministry and government outlining a payment schedule for the salary arrears of the doctors.
Dr. Opoku-Adusei said though he appended his signature to the MOU, the other parties were made to understand that the content of the MOU would be communicated to the �larger council� for action.
According to Dr. Opoku-Adusei when the GMA council met a decision was taken that the MOU was not commitment enough. �We asked government to sign the instruction to the Controller and Accountant department to clear the market premium��
�The MOU between us [doctors and government] was that it was a discussion.�
Citifmonline.com sited a Memorandum of Understand signed by doctors, the Trades Union Congress and government that stated that the doctors agreed to be paid instalments.
The doctors on Monday activated the second phase of their strike by withdrawing all services, including refusal to attend to emergency cases.
Citi News checked showed that some hospitals are turning away patients. Frustrated patients who had visited public hospitals across the country left to seek healthcare in private hospitals.
