The Nsawam Government Hospital has debunked reports indicating that the hospital has recorded its first case of the Ebola virus.
Media reports over the weekend indicated that, three individuals who reported at the Nsawam Government Hospital on Saturday with symptoms of the disease had tested positive with the Ebola virus.
However the Medical Superintendent of the Nsawam Government Hospital, Dr Kofi Ablor in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Monday's edition of 'Kokrokoo' stated categorically that the patients tested negative to the Ebola virus.
According to him, the three patients were brought to the hospital on Saturday and were placed in a separate ward due to the intensity of their ailment. However, the two had a medical history which is not Ebola. Their medical report showed they are suffering from a different sickness’.
A sample was taken from the other patient to Noguchi Memorial centre and after examination, it has been confirmed that he does not have the virus, claimed Dr Ablor.
“I have the medical results from Noguchi in my hands and I can confirm that it is negative. Residents of Nsawam and Ghanaians in general should not be afraid. They should stay calm” he assured.
Four countries in the West African sub region – Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria have so far been hit by the disease.
A total of 1711 suspected cases with 932 deaths have since been recorded by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Ghana has not recorded any case yet.
