Healthnet Airport Medical Centre has been inaugurated with a commitment to focus on offering high-class services and carrying out a wide-range of research on patients’ conditions for quality treatment.

Commissioning the hospital, the former CEO of the National Cardiothoracic Center Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng commended the management for their effort to contribute to the development of the health delivery in Ghana.

He lauded efforts of the centre’s management team to contribute to health service delivery in Ghana, particularly focusing on evidence-based treatment.

He observed that since Ghana is tilting towards consolidating its middle income status, about 45,000 medical doctors are required to meet the health needs of the citizens currently managed by just about 2,700 doctors.

Prof Boateng said Ghana spends close to five per cent of Gross Domestic Product on healthcare and ranks 167th in world, describing the development as “not too good enough”.

On life expectancy, he said Ghana ranks 148th on the human development index in education and healthcare, saying “something is wrong”.

He said the private sector ought to support the public sector to provide adequate and quality healthcare to the people.

Dr Harold Ayetey, Clinical Consultant, Healthnet Head of Internal Medicine, University of Cape Coast Medical School, said the centre would thrive to deliver quality services to Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians comparable to international standards.

He said the centre would serve as a research hub and treatment of patients would base on evidence produced in detailed investigations conducted on the patient’s conditions using contemporary equipment.

He said quality service and cost-effectiveness would be the hallmark of the medical centre, adding that treatment would be patient-centred and communication applied to enhance patient’s satisfaction.

Also present at the ceremony were; Mr. Harold Awuah Darko, Chairman of Nationwide Mutual Healthcare, Mr. Twumasi-Ankra, Manager Healthnet among other medical personnel.
