The Head of Communications and Public Education at the Food and Drugs Authority, Mrs. Rhoda Awurabena Appiah, has cautioned Ghanaians against the dangers associated with the usage of aphrodisiacs to arouse sexual instincts.

Speaking with Peace FM News reporter, Gifty Akoto, she explained that before any drug is being taken, one must make sure it is vetted and approved by the FDA. She said these kinds of drugs have not been vetted hence causing harm to the body.

She explained further that they have recorded lots of cases with aphrodisiacs and that it is because of the chemical substances it contains to boost sexual drives which are dangerous to the body’s vital organs such as; the heart, kidney and others.

She also added that due to the arousal of the sexual drive, its substances turn to be harmful to the organs which once it is damaged, these organs can be difficult to repair.

Mrs. Appiah advised men who are suffering from sexual weakness to seek professional healthcare advice from certified Doctors instead of just purchasing any unprescribed drug.

A Consultant Urologist at the Kumasi South Hospital, Dr. Samuel Amanamah, has cautioned men against the usage of Aphrodisiacs.

He explained that even though aphrodisiacs can give your desired results, there are dangers associated with it which can result in kidney and liver implications which can be difficult to treat once it gets destroyed as a result of aphrodisiacs usage.

He explained further that they have had several cases of the usages of aphrodisiacs such as death and stroke.

Dr. Samuel Amanamah advised that after such drugs are taken, they can make the manhood stand for about a day or two, a week or more and when this happens, the manhood is unable to function again.

He added that some men die as a result of taking this hard drugs for sexual boost and die in the process.

He, therefore, advised men who need to boost their sexual performance  to seek professional healthcare instead of resulting to self-medication.
