The Kasoa District Police Headquarters has warned the public against assaulting suspected criminals and said the practise was unlawful.
This was contained in a statement issued by the District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jordan Quaye, in reaction to reports that a suspected thief was lynched on September 24 at Kasoa.
He said the body of the unidentified man had been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra while investigations were ongoing.
Apart from acting in self defence, physically, no arresting party has the authority to mete out instant punishment Mr Quaye instantly killing or burning suspects alive,.
