The government has appointed Mr Emmanuel Adam Mahama, a Research Fellow of the University of Ghana, Legon, as National Programme Coordinator of the Youth in Agriculture Programme (YIAP).
A letter signed by the Chief of Staff, Office of the President, Mr J.H.M. Newman, to Vice Chancellor of the University, said the Presidency was requesting for the release on secondment of Mr Mahama, 50, for the national assignment with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
It said Mr Mahama was to be assigned as the Co-ordinator of YIAP for two years with effect from January 2010.
The letter read: "While on secondment, Mr Mahama shall continue to enjoy the same conditions of service as a senior member of the University of Ghana."
It said the YIAP was a measure to revamp agriculture, make it youth friendly and support the youth to consider farming as a business rather than as a way of life.
