SWEETHEARTS Michael Fernandes and Cheryl Holden show off the family they started at 13 and 15 - and reveal plans to wed. Nine years on from son Liam's birth, they have defied the odds and had two more boys. Michael, 22, said: "Everybody said, 'You'll never last with a young child'. We showed everyone we are meant to be together."
He was 13 when neighbour Cheryl, 15, got pregnant. They decided to keep their baby and Liam arrived when they were 14 and 16. They now have two more sons - Bryan, three, and Archie, 11 months.Landscape gardener Michael did odd jobs to support his family while at school and is proud to be raising them without sponging off the state.
The couple rent their home in Oldham, Gtr Manchester, privately - and are saving up to marry. But they are hoping to do it earlier - after entering a radio contest to win a free wedding.
Cheryl, 24, said: "We're more inclined to spend money on the kids than on the wedding. That's why winning would be so great. "A lot of young people aren't ready to be parents. I was lucky. Michael didn't go out drinking in the street, he just wanted to be a dad. It's not your age, it's the effort you put into it."
