Some supporters of the two rival chiefs, Nakpaa-Naa Salifu Dawuni and Naa Andani reportedly exchanged gun fire in Bimbila, Friday evening and the unpleasant incident recorded one casualty.
An eyewitness, Abdul Rahaman in Bimbila said, “Some youth went and danced at the Nakpaa-Naa’s palace and on their way home their motorbike hit a girl and that was where the confusion started.”
He added, “It started with the throwing of stones and it finally resulted into the exchange of guns and the military came in.”
The Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP George Tuffour confirmed the incident to Citi News.
He said “the Yendi divisional police Commander called to inform me that there was gun exchange in Bimbila and that one person was already wounded; we are yet to identify those who caused the renewed violence.”
He gave the assurance that there was enough security on the ground to avert any bloodbath in the area.
