The Minority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has called on the police to investigate all reported cases of violence at the biometric voter registration centres and bring the offenders to justice.
He said they should not be allowed to get away with their disgraceful and criminal conduct.
He made reference to some centres in his Suame Constituency where thugs riding unregistered motor bikes harassed and physically attacked people in queues and some registration officials.
They even made daring attempts at destroying the registration materials.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after touring a number of the centres in the constituency to assess how the exercise was going.
He said he finds it difficult to rationalize why the compilation of a voters’ register should excite so much tension, disruption and violence.
“We certainly do not need this. We should rather build on the progress we have achieved in our democratic governance.”
The Minority Leader urged all Ghanaians to share in the responsibility of helping to make the exercise peaceful, smooth and successful.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said they should remain vigilant and appealed to those who have not yet registered to do so to enable them to exercise their franchise in the coming December general elections.
He counseled against multiple registration and said culprits would be prosecuted.
