The Executive Director of the National Service Secretariat, Vincent Kuagbenu, has chided the Government and Hospital Pharmacists and the Consultants at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for embarking on strike.
According to him, these unions must exhaust roundtable discussions and be patriotic in their dealings with government.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, Mr. Kuagbenu said the recent increase in strike among labour unions was not helping the development of the country.
The spate of strikes in the last two years in the formal sector cannot encourage any increase in productivity in terms of delivery. Can we say that government is not committed or employers are not committed in ensuring the welfare of their employees? We need to be patriotic, he stated.
Mr. Kuagbenu explained that: I dont think that any worker sleeps on an empty stomach. People go on strike because some allowances have not being paid to them. Not salaries.
He further mentioned that the consultants of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and pharmacists in government hospitals were on strike because some of their allowances were in arrears not because salaries had not been paid.
