Personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Police, Prisons Service, Fire Service, Immigration Service and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority on Thursday went on a route march along some of the main streets of Accra.
The men and women of the security services started off at the El-Wak Sports Stadium at 0635 hours after an address by Lieutenant-General Peter Augustine Blay, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
The marchers, in full battle gear and displaying their regimental colours, marched to the tune of popular tunes they sang and some civilians poured out of their homes to cheer the men in uniform on.
Military helicopters flew overhead and armoured personnel carriers, fire tenders and other security vehicles drove behind the troops with dispatch riders displaying their dexterity on their bikes.
The marchers moved from the El Wak Sports Stadium to Akuafo Circle, through the Obasanjo Highway, Accra Girls� Senior High School, Nima Roundabout to the Nima Police Station and got to the Arko Adjei Interchange.
They moved to the Flag Staff House, Christ the King Catholic Church, Cantonments Post Office and back to the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
Lt Gen Blay said route march was a regular exercise undertaken by the members of the security forces.
