There is simmering tension in the Northern Regional town of Yendi following reports that two people have sustained gunshot wounds after a combined Police-Military team stormed the Abudu Royal Palace to prevent the spiritual head of the Abudu Royal gate, Bolin-Lana from celebrating this year’s Damba festival.
The Bolin-Lana, is reported to have vowed to mark the festival despite protestations from the Andani gate and several warnings from the security agencies.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that some youth in the community massed up at the Abudu Royal Palace to prevent the gun-wielding military and police men from entering the Palace, forcing the security team to fire warning shots.
In the ensuing melee, two people allegedly sustained gun-shot wounds.
The victims, according to the Assemblyman for Gagbini electoral area, Abubakari Nachin-Naa, who spoke to CitiFM a short while ago, are undergoing treatment. He identified them as Hardi Gonja and Afa Shani, brother of the Yendi constituency NPP Chairman.
“...gun shots can be heard everywhere and they are beating people mercilessly; two persons have sustained serious injuries and they currently at a private clinic because the whole of Nayili-Fong has been cordoned off and there was no way we could rush them to the Yendi government hospital,” Abubakari Nachin-Naa added.
