The manager of Electricity Company of Ghana in charge of Kasoa district in the Central Region, Emmanuel K. Lumor has expressed fear that his life is under threat as some people want to take his life.
Speaking to the Daily Heritage in an interview, the district manager explained that he has consistently received threat text messages from unidentified persons because he is fighting against corruption that is going on at the offices under his watch.
Mr. Lumor further disclosed that prior to his assumption of office as the district manager; there were a lot of corrupt activities by the company workers in connivance with some of the assembly members in the area to sell electricity meters.
“Before I was posted to this place as a district manager, I got information that people were illegally selling meters to the general public so I told myself that this social canker must stop under my watch and I am in the course of doing that”, he noted.
The district manager noted that last year November, some gunmen attacked him and his family in his house and he suspected that it was those people who he has blocked their evil activities who attacked him.
Mr. Lumor asserted that since all their antics to eliminate him from his post have failed, they have now resorted to demonstration by gathering people to pose as concerned customers of Ghana Electricity Company to demonstrate against him that the area is experiencing a lot of light outs during his time in order to call the attention of the authorities.
He further noted that he has received an invitation letter from the district police commander, Samuel T. Punobyin dated January 9, 2014 saying “The Kasoa district commander will like to meet you for an important discussion of customers who are peeved and ready to go on demonstration.”
Mr. Lumor was of the view that all these were attempts to frustrate him and divert his attention from the course he is championing to minimize corruption in the company, but according to him this will never move him nor scare him.
He bemoaned the rate at which people steal electricity meters and disclosed that more than 100 meters were stolen last year alone and he is putting new strategies in place to track those thieves.
Since assembly members of the area were cited as those conniving with some of the workers, the Daily Heritage sought their side of the story but some declined to talk and others failed to pick the paper’s calls.
