The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, CLOSSAG, has begun a nationwide strike to press home their demand for the payment of premium to members.
According to the Association, all the necessary procedures were followed before declaring the nationwide boycott.
Speaking to Radio Ghana, the First National Trustee of the Association, Kwame Asamoah Dwimor described the strike as legal.
He said CLOSSAG will stay out of their work place until their demands are met.
The New Juaben Municipal Chairman of CLOSSAG, Aaron Asante, says the strike has become necessary due to the disparities in salaries of workers when they were migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure.
He said salaries of CLOSSAG members are now worse than their pre-SSSS levels and this is demoralising.
According to Mr Asante, CLOSSAG had held series of meetings with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the National Labour Commission as far back as 2011 to dialogue on the issue, but all have proved futile.
The Association therefore has no option than to resort to the industrial action to back their demand.
Meanwhile, a visit by Radio Ghana to the Ministries reveals that though workers are in their offices, they are not working.
