As part of efforts to ensure accurate reportage and create a connection between the media and stakeholders in the road and highway sector, the Ministry of Road and highways is engaging some selected journalists in Koforidua in the Eastern Region to that effect.
According to the Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Isaac Adjei Mensah the media play an important role in helping to create awareness on any issue.
It is therefore prudent to train practitioners to appreciate what goes on in the sector, so that they can feed the public with the right information.
Meanwhile, a pilot programme will soon start in Primary Schools to sensitise children to Road Safety.
The initiative is being put together by a private company in collaboration with the National Road Safety Commission and the Ghana Education Service.
About three hundred road safety club members have also been selected for the first phase, with beneficiaries expected to be agents of change in society.
Addressing the media, Managing Director of the Company, Fred Osoro said, the Company has begun Road Safety Sensitization Programmes at transport terminals, to educate drivers on defensive driving to save lives.
