Two men have been arrested in connection with robbery and rape of a 32-year-old woman at Dansoman in Accra over a Sakawa deal.

The men, identified as Musa Morro, 22, and Mohammed Toffique, 18, were part of a gang of six who attacked the house of a student at Dansoman.

The gang had been contracted by an aggrieved party in a business deal, whose name was given by the police as, Mr Christian Nugu, alias Cross, to threaten the student.

They were also instructed to loot the house of the student for allegedly cheating Nugu in the deal.

Sakawa
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Antwi Tabi, said Nugu and the student had indulged in Internet fraud, popularly known as Sakawa.

The two, he said, shared their gains according to an agreed percentage based on the amount of money involved.

However, one of their deals went wrong. So on June 26, 2014, Nugu hired the services of the gang whom he knew were robbers to threaten the student and seize his property which would later be sold.

At about 8 p.m. on the day in question, Morro led five other members of the gang to the house of the student who fled upon seeing them.

Sexual assault
Mr Tabi said a girlfriend of the student who had just come out of the bathroom saw the gang members forcing their way into their room.

When the gang entered, he said they took a Plasma television set, three lap tops, two Nokia phones, an iphone, a Louis Vuitton ladies hand bag and cash of GH1,800 belonging to the student and his girlfriend.

After looting the house, three of the gang members including Morro and two others who are yet to be identified sexually assaulted the fiance of the student before the gang fled, said Mr Tabi.

Through investigations, the Dansoman police arrested Morro on July 6, 2014 and when his room was searched, the ladies hand bag and one of the mobile phones were found in his possession.

Morro was later identified by the students girlfriend as one of the men who had raped her.

Mr Tabi said a box of assorted alcoholic beverages was also found in the room of Morro.

When he was interrogated, Morro told the police that Nugu had hired their services to attack the student.

The police, through investigation, gathered that Morro and his gang had robbed a shop at Dansoman on the same day of their arrest.

The owner of the shop, who also learnt at the Dansoman Police Station that some suspects had been arrested with assorted alcoholic beverages, identified the drinks as hers and had since retrieved her stolen goods.
