A 32-year-old driver who presented himself as a military man and defrauded his colleague driver to a tune of GH¢21,400.00 has been sentenced to pay a fine of GH¢24,00.00 or in default serve a 48-month jail term by the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court.
Prosecutor, Detective Chief Inspector Kingsley Antwi told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Bart Plang Brew that between December, 2014 and January, 2015, the accused Gabriel Owusu aka Kwame Mawuli, a driver, who hails from Atumtumirem, a community near Akyem Achiase succeeded in taking an amount of GH¢21,400.00 from William Owusu Aboagye also a driver with the assurance that he (the accused) will help the daughter of Mr. William O. Aboagye to be recruited into the Ghana Arm force.
The accused told Mr. Aboagye that he is a military officer who is on a course at the Akyem Achiase Jungle Warfare School and was even about to leave for a peace keeping mission abroad.
After waiting for several days without success, Mr. Aboagye reported the case to the police for which the accused was busted. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Mr. Gabriel Owusu is not a military officer.
