Nana Owusu-Ankomah, former Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has indicated that the party has competent men and women who can revive the country’s economy.

He stressed that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his team have the expertise to rebuild the ‘shattered’ Ghanaian economy and fix the mess created by the outgoing National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who secured 53.85 percent of the total valid votes, defeated incumbent President John Mahama, who garnered 44.4 per cent of the votes.

Commenting on the party’s victory in an interview, the former regional chairman said the NPP has what it takes to stabilize the Cedi to boost the operations of businesses to ensure economic growth and prosperity.

He pointed out that even if the party fails to introduce new policies, the revival of all social intervention programmes initiated by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, which he claimed had been mismanaged by the Mahama-led NDC administration, would go a long way to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

He said the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), School Feeding Programme, Metro Mass Transport and Mass Cocoa Spraying Exercise, among others, were crucial to the country’s economy.

Nana Owusu-Ankomah was optimistic the President-elect Nana Addo and the NPP would be able to fulfill all the promises made prior to the general elections, including the one-district-factory policy.

“The one-district one-factory and the one constituency one million dollars policies are deliberate strategies to stimulate local economies and create the needed jobs for Ghana’s development,” he added.

He stated that “As a businessman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a supermarket in Takoradi, I can attest to the fact that business and trading are booming after Nana Addo was declared president elect. The market women are happy and people are patronizing their goods.”

“I am very confident that despite the current economic difficulties, we, the NPP, will rise up and turn around the fortunes of our country,” he added.

Nana Owusu-Ankomah called on Ghanaians to be patient and continuously pray for the new government to deliver on its promises.

Mr Owusu-Ankomah lost the regional chairmanship position to Atta Dickson Nketia, popularly called ‘Kendicks’ in the party’s primary in January 2014.

285 out of the 451 delegates from the 26 constituencies in the Western Region who participated in the primary, voted for Mr Nketia while Nana Owusu-Ankomah secured 124 votes.
