Former Deputy Energy Minister in the erstwhile Manama administration, John Abdulai Jinapor says the yet-to-be built national cathedral is never a problem to any Ghanaian no matter their religious background, but the lack of accurate information and truth surrounding its construction has caused the agitations surrounding it.
He said, “I am a Christian but disagree with persons who seek to attack people who have problems with the procedures in building the national cathedral, claiming building a house for the Lord should be the nation’s greatest priority, than any other thing”.
“No Ghanaian is against the decision to build a national cathedral but the lack of information and truth relating to its establishment has made it seem so,” the Yapei-Kusawgu Member of Parliament emphatically stated.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on March 6, 2018 unveiled an architectural design for the construction of a national cathedral.
The design, which was inspired by the concept of unity, harmony, and spirituality, is a heritage project to commemorate the 60th independence anniversary of Ghana.
Some judges have already been given eviction notices to vacate their residences to make way for the construction of the structure.
There has since been heated public debate about the need or otherwise of a national cathedral as well as the proposed location for the project.
John Jinapor who was speaking on Peace fm’s "Kokrokoo" panel discussion segment, called on President Akufo-Addo and his government to come clear on the matter, explaining further the position of citizens and government on the cathedral development and the cost involved, to curb the numerous protest.

Why does some Ghanaians hate tangible criticisms because the issue at stake is not NPP or NDC it is about Ghana and the use of our resources wisely by the government ; in the case of building a cathederal for Ghana today it is not a PRIORITY for the state and whether it by the government or private finance is neither here nor there ; but the fact is that the government initially declared its intentions to build a cathederal ; to me this idea that private contribution will form part or all the finance of the project tell s you how corruption emanates from the bottom and feeds to to the top; these benevolent people who business peole will give these donations but will expect contracts from the government and the price the project will inflated ; we saw this in the JOn Mahama government ;besides why does Nana Addo want to build a cathederal based on lies and corrution and such rojects take time and long term planning ; where are the costings ; and where is the vision in this project when peole have no proper places to sheet ; go to Nima and see the gutters which are full blacxk bag containing'sheet' this is not the time for a cathederal ;WE DO NOT NEED A CATHEDERAL ; to me it is avenue for Nana Addo to divert some the $2bn loan into the pocket of Nana Addo PERIOD !!!!!!!
I WISH SOME OF THIS NDC COMMUNICATORS WILL LEARN TO SHUT THEIR MOUTH. MILLIONS OF GHANAIANS ARE NOT HAPPY ABOUT HTIS PROJECT AND THE GOVERMENT IS HAVING DIFFICULTY EXPLAINING WHY THEY GOING TO DEMOLISH BUILDINGS EXPENSIVE BUILDINGS AND YOU NDC MP IS SUPPORTING THIS? WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOME OF THIS NDC PERSONS?
You these NDC people will criticize everything for political expediency. Are they not the same people who insulted kufour for building Jubilee house? 50 years after indepedence our head of goverment was living in a slave castle! Ghana needs national monuments and projects like this have significant historic & revenue potential. The church has done so much- schools, hospitals, clinics etc for this country over the years and offering them a piece of land to build a catedral is not out of pla e. Every year government spends thousands of ghc to organize and send our moslem friends to Mecca and nobody complains. Kufour was right we see the cost of everything but the value of nothing.
You have no right to request for cost of project. Not unless it is government funded. If it is not your tax money funding this project, what business do you have requesting for cost??
