The Director, Faculty of Academic Affairs & Research, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr Kwesi Anin says Ghana’s security is in crisis.
According to him, political parties over the years have interfered in the daily activities of the security service [mainly the police] - which has rendered them unproductive.
“The morale of the police is down, they are doing the safety work but the political interference in their work is too much for them,” Dr Aning said in an interview with Accra FM.
He further said, “Fear of victimisation”, “unnecessary political interference” and “dubious transfers, demotion and promotion” are also part of the tools used to weaken the police.
Dr. Kwesi Anin however condemned the “wait-and-see” cliché by politicians to threaten the police serve.
“We are a nation in crisis because we are incapable, unwilling and unprepared to take the tough security-related decisions that we need to take,” he said.
