Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, is optimistic that the anti-gay bill will be passed into law, since majority of Ghanaians have declared their position on the LGBTQ+ issue.

Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament, Sam George and seven other Parliamentarians have proposed an anti-LGBTQ+ bill called Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill to be passed to outlaw homosexual activities but an elite group have kicked against it.

The opponents of the bill comprising the Lead Counsel for President Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2020 election petition hearing, Akoto Ampaw, Professor Kofi Gyimah-Boadi, Dr Rose Kutin-Mensah, and the Executive Director of Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Professor H. Kwasi Prempeh argue it is an encroachment on the fundamental human rights enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

Addressing the issue on Wednesday's edition of 'Kokrokoo' on Peace FM, Kwamena Duncan asked the legislators not to forget their mandate and those who have empowered them to be in Parliament.

According to him, he expects the Parliamentarians to heed the citizens' call stressing, "sovereignty resides in the people. We have given you the power to lead us and we, who have the power, are saying this is what we want. A CDD research indicates that 95 out of 100 Ghanaians don't want to even hear the word 'homosexuality' in their ears, then that is the entire country . . . So, they (Parliamentarians) cannot pretend to look elsewhere''.

He cautioned the legislators saying ''the entire nation is resolved on this matter that we won't accept a man to have sex with a man or a woman to engage in sexual affair with another woman''.

''This is a huge tide and let nobody, let no single Ghanaian worth their citizenship, stand in the way of this tide. It is clear, the Ghanaian people, that is what they want and that is the way Parliament must go," he further stressed.
