Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam Nartey George says Ghanaians will experience more hardship should the government decide to end the nationwide SIM card re-registration exercise.
According to him, most Ghanaians have sought to do small-scale businesses with their sim cards via Mobile Money (MOMO) transactions to end a living.
“So, what do you want these people to do if you block their sims because they did not register?” he questioned
Adding that, this will breed “insecurity and the already hardship will be extreme if that is what they [government] want, they should continue.”
The SIM card registration exercise began on 31st October, 2021 and was expected to end on 31st March, 2022 but as at 17th March, over 14 million SIM cards had been linked to the Ghana Card with over 10 million Bio-Captures conducted and 99,445 new SIMs registered.
Due to a number of factors including the fact that over 7.5 million citizens and residents were yet to obtain Ghana Cards to enable them register their SIM cards, it was clear the deadline for completion of the registration of the remaining active SIM cards couldn't be met.
As a result, the Ministry extended the deadline to July, 31, 2022 which falls on this Sunday.
However, there are still many people who haven't completed their registration for the Ghana Card to start the process of registration for the SIM card and with those who have acquired their Ghana Cards, many are facing difficulties in registering their SIM cards.
Sam Nartey George who was speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, Ghana Montie called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to order the Communication and Digitalisation Minister to extend the deadline for the nationwide SIM card re-registration exercise.
According to the lawmaker the minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, is failing to listen to the voice of reason by insisting that the registration exercise should end on Sunday, July 31, 2022.
“If they end this registration as scheduled, what will become of their digitization policy Dr Bawumia has been preaching?” he quizzed.

Wonders shall never end. Was it not this boy who said he was not going to register his SIM card with the Ghana card and that NDC people should ignore the directive? What has changed for him to nowcall for an extension ? This are the people who speak before thinking. I was interested in seeing what he would have done if his mobile phone number was blocked for failing to register. Nan niama.
What an irony! The same legislature who spoke against the SIM card registration is now pleading for an extension? Of course he has now understood its importance and want an extension to register his own.
SIM REGISTRATION BECAUSE OF TERRORIST THAT IS WHY GHANAIANS SHOULDN'T LISTERN TO NDC IGNORANC E, ARROGAN T UNRU LLY MENTALITY FOR REGISTERING THEIR SIM PLUS BIO DATA BECAUSE IS THE PHONES TERRORIST USE TO BOOMB THEIR VICTIMS SO THAT INFOMATION IS VITAL IF TERRORISTS CELLS ARE BEING FORMED THE WAY OF DOING SUCH SEARCH IS BY SIM, TO PHONES WAYS. WE SHOULDN'T ALLOW PASSPORT, DRIVERS LICENSE, VOTERS ID TO BE USE TO REGISTER SIM IN GHANA EXCEPT GHANA CARD AS GHANAIANS OVERSEAS VISIT GHANA THEY WILL DO THEIR GHANA CARD AS MY BROTHERS AND FRIENDS WHO CAME RECENTLY HAVE DONE. SO USLER STICK TO THE DEALINE FOR JULY 31, 2022 BUT ONCE YOUR PHONE IS SHUTDOWN REACTIVATE IT ONCE YO RECEIVE YOUR CARD JUST AS ANYONE REACTIVATING NEW PHONE EXCEPT THAT THE OLD PHONES HAVE THEIR INFORMMATION AND SIM ON THE TELECOMS DATABASE BUT HAS NO BIODATA INFOATION ATTACHED.

In Ghana we prevent so called politicians from experiencing the very problems we elected them to solve- they have guards for their safety, they jump queues, coupons for free fuel, free water, free electricity, free accommodation, clothing allowance, entertainment allowance, per diem, exgratia. How then do you expect them to solve problems they don't face. No wonder they come out of office irrespective of how much they were able to grab looking frustrated, confused as reality stirs them in the face. Acquiring a common ID card too has become wahala for the ordinary citizen. Not surprising one university don once said Ghana's so called politicians are paid to talk not to think. This National ID card wahala cannot happen in a country where their politicians think. Just ask citizens of close door Togo, Burkina Faso and Mali whether they go through same Wahala to acquire their national ID's. All they know is V8, exgratia, inflated contracts, grabbing of auction vehicles. Tweeeeaaa
Ghanaians are calling on the President Nana Aufo-Addo to remove and revoke the appointment of the minister of communication and digitalisation Ursula Owusu from her ministerial function. After her marshall law of 31 July "Ghana Card and SIM registration" deadline causing more sufferings and panic for ghanaians, she has to be reminded that the country is not in a militray regime. Ghanas economic crises has brought untold hardships for ghanaians. The country under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia has no clear plotical and economic direction to safe Ghanas economy from total collaps. From nowhere, the minister imprudently publicly announced her Marshall Law of 31 July deadline of "Ghana Card registering on SIM Card" imposing that on ghanaians. What a hell is that? Creating panic and anarchy in Ghana? Did she considered the negative consequences affecting the already weak structures of Ghanas economy? She is one of the ministers Aufo-Addo must revoke her ministerial function after Adowa Safo. For the sake of peace in Ghana, its better that the President remove her from this complicated function.
This guy swore to take NCA to law courts, citing the unconstitutionality of the exercise, to the extend of discouraging people, esp NDC followers not to register.Today he's pleading for extension...what a hog! These ignorants and empty barrels never cease to embarrass themselves, and confuse their gullible/innocent followers.NDC party is full of such.Never again!
These same ev!l NDC people told their followers not to go for the Ghana card when govt started issuing the cards. I remember Ofosu Ampofo the National Chairman on this. What at all do you NDC people want from us. Stop the double standard.
