Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah has been adjudged the "Best Pig Farmer" in the Central Region.
The Governance Lecturer at the Central University was recognized for his immense contributions and diligence in the agric sector.
He owns 17 acres of palm oil, 10 acres of maize farm, rears pigs and sheeps.
According to him, his long-term goal is to own 120 acres of palm oil farm, increase his employee size as part of his social responsibility to curbing the unemployment situation in Ghana.
Dr. Otchere-Ankrah was declared Best Big Farmer on Farmer's Day on Friday, December 2, 2022.
As his reward, he was given a wheelbarrow, cutlass and two bars of keysoap, Knapsack sprayer, a radio set and a bag.
"When I won the award, they gave me one wheelbarrow, one knapsack sprayer, one cutlass, two bars of keysoap and a small radio set...", he disclosed on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
Speaking on the programme, he appealed to the government to support farmers and equip them with the right tools to facilitate their work.
"We have good researchers. We have good farmers and Professors; people who are practically working . . . they are there. How are we galvanizing these resources that we can use to make agriculture in the country useful?
"Agric is practical . . . hands-on! Let's devote attention to our agriculture. It will help us . . .we have to have a conscious effort because if we get budget allocation to support farmers, we can get more than we can eat," he said.
