A Board member of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG), Dr. Nicholas Smart-Yeboah has advised electricity consumers to prioritize payment of their monthly electricity bills.

He explained that most Ghanaians have over the years not taken the payment of electricity seriously, thus resulting in many customers defaulting in the payment of their monthly electricity bills.

He said; “One must always put electricity payment as part of your monthly to-do-list because electricity is very important for businesses, for life and everything.”

Dr. Smart-Yeboah, who is also a former Director of Customer Services of the ECG, said this on Thursday when he led a Revenue Mobilization Team to Asesewa District of the Company.

He explained that the Board of Directors and ECG management embarked on the revenue exercise to conscientize Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of paying for electricity voluntarily, expressing hope that with time Ghanaians would understand the need to pay for power consumed.

Dr. Smart-Yeboah was in the Region to monitor the exercise and help the Region to achieve its revenue target for the weeklong exercise that started on Monday, 29th May, 2023.

The exercise took the team to Safari Valley Resort located at Asenema in the Asesewa District of the ECG in the Eastern Region where he interacted with some management members and inspected their payment receipts that covered the payment of electricity bills for the Month of April, 2023.

The General Manager of the ECG in Eastern Region, Ing. Mrs. Sariel Adobea Etwire said ECG is currently on a journey to collect monies owed them by customers and urged the customers to use the electronic payment platforms provided for them to make payments from the comfort of their homes.

She said customers are now understanding that ECG is undergoing some changes and are welcoming the changes taking place in the company.

She commended Ghanaians for accepting the Revenue Mobilization Exercise.

Ing. Mrs. Etwire assured that the company will continue to collect revenue on monthly basis to help improve upon the services it rendered to the people.

The team included the District Manager of Asesewa District, Mr. Dzigbordi K. Bansah and Mr. Emmanuel Halm, Regional Communications Officer and visited the Nkurakan Revenue Collection Point where customers had massed up to pay their utility bills in the heat of the disconnection exercise.
