Unconfirmed reports reaching the Daily Guide newspaper indicate that there has been a jailbreak at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region, where five inmates of a police cells allegedly overpowered two officers and escaped from lawful custody.
One of the jail breakers was shot dead in a struggle with an armed police officer, while another was later grabbed after a hot chase.
The police have mounted a manhunt for the three others who managed to escape. Officials are tight-lipped over the incident since it happened over a week ago.
Sources at Kintampo hinted Daily Guide that the incident occurred on September 17 at a time the officer on duty was checking out for another to take over. Reports say when the two officers opened the cells gate to undertake a head-count of the jailers as usual, the inmates pounced on the police officers and struggled their way out.
According to sources, during the struggle, one of the jail breakers held the gun of one of the police officers in an attempt to snatch the rifle from him. The jail breaker accidentally pressed the trigger and fired the gun which went his direction. He died instantly.
After a hot chase, the police grabbed one of the jail breakers but three others fled.
