Identical twin sisters Zaakira Mitchell and Shaakira White were happily surprised when they became pregnant weeks apart.
They were downright amazed when they gave birth on the same day just an hour apart.
The 20-year-old sisters from South Carolina were due to give birth three weeks apart but ended up both becoming mothers on July 24.Mitchell decided to be induced on July 24, two days before her due date, and arrived at the Columbia, South Carolina, hospital with her twin sister by her side for support.White, whose due date was August 16, was scheduled for a check-up at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital that day and told doctors shed been experiencing contractions.
Doctors then discovered that White was going into early labour and was already five to six centimeters dilated, according to the sisters physician, Dr David Ferguson. White was soon being prepared for a caesarean section.
'The whole thing was very exciting. All of a sudden all this family who had been there for Zaakira were suddenly there for Shaakira as well,' Dr. Ferguson told ABC news.
Just an hour after Mitchell gave birth to a boy, who she named Kadin, White gave birth to twins, Landon and London.
Dr.Ferguson said that as soon as Mitchell was stable after giving birth, his team turned their attention to preparing White.
Beside each other in hospital, the sisters spoke of their delight that their children will grow up together and share the same birthday.
Shes my best friend so for us to share this, it was really special and it was really emotional,' Mitchell told WOLO.
