THE ASOKWA District Police command in Kumasi has arrested a 38-year-old pastor of the Prophetic Fire Ministries International in connection with the murder of a couple at Boaso, a farming community in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.

Pastor William Amankwa Wiseman is suspected to be behind the killing of Simons Adu Gyamfi, 43, and his wife, Georgina Afua Kyerewaa, 38, who are linked to a protracted chieftaincy dispute in the area.

They were shot to death in their car in front of their house by unidentified gunmen. The District Police Commander, Emmanuel Akonnor, told DAILY GUIDE the suspect was being investigated in connection with the case. According to him, Pastor Wiseman and the deceased, Gyamfi, were leading candidates for the vacant stool of Boaso, which has been engulfed in a protracted chieftaincy dispute.

The suspect, who is a nephew of the deceased, has since been remanded into prison custody pending further investigations. Gyamfi and his wife were killed at about 10:30pm when the woman alighted to enable her husband to park their car. The police chief said the gunmen fled after committing the crime which ignited tension and insecurity in the locality for hours.

The attack is linked to a protracted chieftaincy dispute involving two factions each led by Gyamfi and Pastor Wiseman. Supt. Akonnor indicated that the dispute, which had virtually divided the royal family, brought about bad blood between the contending parties.

DAILY GUIDE’s sources indicated that the killers might have been charged to carry out the operation as it appeared a committee set up for the amicable settlement of the matter was about to give a verdict that would favour the deceased.

Alex Amoako aka Oly, an opinion leader in the community, said that Gyamfi died instantly while his wife died on the way to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for medical attention.

According to the opinion leader, who is a newspaper vendor, four shots were heard during the attack, compelling residents close to the scene to take to their heels.

Alex Amoako said the late Gyamfi was an elder of the Assemblies of God Church at Twedie and was generally said to be a good man.
