A 28-year-old driver, Edward Attah Kwasi Wiredu, has found himself in the grips of the law for beating his wife to death at Aplaku, near Weija.

The deceased, Comfort Ama Anhwei, 29, a nursing mother, was beaten to death after an attempt to prevent her husband from attending a supposed funeral on September 28, 2012 at Swedru.

The suspect is currently in police cells awaiting trial.

Narrating the story to Daily Guide, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tetteh, said suspect Edward Attah Kwasi Wiredu, a “trotro” driver, lived with the deceased at Aplaku near Weija.

The couple had been married for the past year and was blessed with a five-month-old baby boy.

On September 28, 2012, after Wiredu had returned from work, he took a few clothing and informed the wife that he was attending a funeral at Swedru in the Central Region.Anhwei, who always accused the husband of spending money on women and drinks, attempted to prevent him from attending the funeral.

This led to a fierce fight between them.

In the process, Wiredu assaulted the wife severely, leaving her with wounds all over her body.Suspect Edward, who thought the wife would recover in due time, did not attend to her.

On October 2, 2012, around 4am, Anhwei’s senior brother, Solomon Nyarko, who also lived at McCartey Hill, was called by a neighbour to convey the younger sister to the hospital since her health was deteriorating.Anhwei died on arrival at the Ga-South Municipal Hospital.

A report was lodged at the Odorkor Police, after which suspect Edward was arrested.Upon interrogation, he admitted to having beaten the wife and would be put before court soon for murder. The police are still investigating the case while doctors conduct autopsy on the body.
