THE POLICE in Kumasi have arrested two teenage boys alongside two young men suspected to be members of a robbery gang terrorizing residents in the metropolis.

Daniel Owusu, a 14-year-old dismissed student of St. Ann’s Anglican Junior High School in Kumasi, and his accomplice, Joseph Yeboah, 18, were arrested after robbing a businessman, under the cover of darkness, at Ash-Town.

This follows a close monitoring of their movement by the complainant, who managed to recognize their faces while being attacked.

Briefing the media, the deputy Public Relations Officer of Ashanti Regional Police Command, Godwin Ahianyo, said the incident happened on September 28, 2012 around 7:30pm at Ash-Town, a suburb of Kumasi.

According to him, the complainant, a resident of Tafo-Nhyiaeso, was on his way home when he was attacked by the young chaps armed with a pair of scissors and a sharp knife.

Corporal Ahianyo narrated that the victim was descending a hill at the Ash-Town area heading towards Krofuom when the duo emerged from behind a kiosk and launched the attack on the businessman.

He said the suspects succeeded in robbing the complainant of GH˘70 and two mobile phones, after stabbing him severally on the chest, back and hand before escaping from the scene.

Luck however eluded Daniel Owusu, who was dismissed from school last year for allegedly stealing from his school mate, when he was spotted by the complainant on October 4, 2012 around the same area.

Corporal Ahianyo stated that the victim, with the help of his brother, arrested the 14-year-old school dropout and handed him over to the Manhyia police.

He later led the police to arrest his accomplice, Joseph Yeboah, at his hideout, the police PRO indicated, adding that the twosome had since been charged with robbery and remanded into custody.

In the second robbery incident, two young men, Kojo Anthony and Edward Ayigwenam, 20, were said to have attacked and robbed a level-300 communication design student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology at Bomso, another suburb of Kumasi.

Kojo Anthony, 21, a mechanic, and his accomplice, Edward Ayigwenam, 20, allegedly attacked the 25-year-old student whose name the police would not give out for security reasons.

The incident occurred on October 15, 2012 around 11pm while the victim was returning to his rented apartment at Ayigya, a suburb of Kumasi, from the KNUST campus after studies.

Corporal Ahianyo said the suspects emerged from a bush and pushed the victim down from behind before snatching his bag containing a laptop computer, a pen-drive, modem and mouse.

According to the police PRO, the suspects were arrested by a police patrol team after a short chase. The police had heard the victim screaming for help.

A search conducted on them revealed a sharp knife and a dog chain suspected to be among the weapons used by the robbers for their operations, Corporal Ahianyo narrated.

They admitted to the offence in their caution statement. The two are in police custody awaiting prosecution.
