Property and goods worth several thousands of Ghana cedis was destroyed when fire engulfed sections of the Kumasi Central Market on Sunday night.
The cause of the fire however is not immediately known.
The efforts of the personnel from the Ghana Fire Service however, brought the inferno which started around 21:00 GMT, under control.
The fire spread behind the popular �Edwom Aboronsan� area, where wax print is sold.
Market fires are common in Ghana, within the year 2012, over five markets have been razed down by fire.
They include the Mallam and the Madina markets both here in Accra.
In both cases Firemen blamed illegal electrical connections or open flames for the fire.
This is not the first time fire has destroyed parts of the market which is considered one of the biggest in Ghana.
It took firemen over four hours to put out the last fire which occurred in April this year.
The firemen said they were unable to minimize the extent of the damage of the fire due to a lack of access some parts of the market
