The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has revised its internship programme from one academic year to a semester to make it possible for students to have time for lectures and other academic activities.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, said this in an address read for him at a welcoming ceremony for 1,827 final year students back to campus on Monday at Winneba.
Professor Mawuedem Amedika, Dean of Faculty of Science, read the address on his behalf.
He said the major purpose of the Student Internship Programme (SIP) is to develop and strengthen their skills and to prepare them for the teaching profession.
Prof Asabere-Ameyaw expressed the hope that internship had enabled the students to understand the connection between theory and practice and had enhanced their knowledge and potential to reach the goals set for the teaching profession.
He said the year would see the first batch of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students going on official Industrial attachment programme.
He said the University, through the Centre for Teacher Development and Action Research (CETDAR), is in the process of placing the BBA students in competent and experienced hands to be mentored. In this regard, we are establishing partnership with renowned and relevant institutions and organizations to enable them achieve this objective, he said.
